What are we doing -:
Friends of Leeds Kirkgate Market will question all councillors on the 13th of November over the lack of progress and transparency around the future of Kirkgate Market by delivering a deputation speech.
We are very concerned that the public is being tricked. In March the Council heralded a proposed £12.3m investment – with the first £1.6m to be spent this year. But it seems this much needed investment for urgent repairs has been delayed.
As a result many traders are looking into this coming Christmas as being their last one in the market. We know that the public has reiterated in numerous consultations that basic repairs and meaningful involvement of traders in management are key for a successful future of the market – but it seems this is being ignored.
Do you have similar concerns at the current state of the market and want to join us in the Gallery?
You can show your support by attending the Deputation speech presentation at Leeds Civic Hall from 1.30 on the 13th November. Sit in the gallery and see how councillors answer the key questions.
You could also write to your local councillor, expressing concern about the lack of progress on investment in the market.
