Discussions about Eastgate start – read our influential objection letter

May 12, 2011

Today councillors met for the first time to discuss the proposals by Hammerson to develop a huge shopping centre next to Kirkgate Market. We will have a report soon on this 4 long hour meeting but it is clear that the objection that Friends of Leeds Kirkgate Market sent and that you can read HERE has shaped the discussions. Aditionally, to date, at least 180 objection letters (and only 3 in support) have been sent in from both members of the public and Market traders themselves, drawing attention to the negative impact on Kirkgate Market. The National Federation of Market Traders and its Leeds Branch have also sent objection comments that mirror our concerns, although these have not yet been published online for some reason.
So thanks to all of you that took the time to write. By the way, you can still send your objection as councillors will be meeting again the next months. For instructions about how to object see a previous post here.
